@bookswithamanda212: You are not above the human experience. You cannot beat out evolution. There are particular things we need or behaviors we have adapted as human beings that are essential for our development individually and as a species. You do need friends. You do need sleep. You do need a multitude of different things that some people are so desperate to separate themselves from in order to make themselves feel special and unique. The need to be an “other” from your fellow humans is led by arrogance, inflated egos, pride, and/or insecurity. #evolution #humanbehavior #philosophy #friendship #relationships
Accepting that I wasn’t special and dropping all that arrogance inflated by my ego actually gave me peace 💀

I mostly agree with this but I definitely don't think we are all evolutionarily wired to want a partner. For example, I don't have anything against the idea of being partnered if I meet someone I want to be with, but its not a desire that I have or something I long for. I do think it should be normalized that romantic partners aren't for everyone.

I was with you until you said that it's a human need for a romantic relationship. That's just not true. Of course most people desire it, but many people don't want this. It sounds like you're projecting.

Not experiencing a need for connection doesn't necessarily mean that a person feels like they're better than anyone else. I personally consider myself perfectly average, it's just that interacting with other humans was never something I needed? Like, I don't mind hanging out with others, but when I've spent weeks, or even months completely alone during my travels or out on a job, I've not once felt like I missed the presence of another human being.

Agree with everything, just not the romance part. I truly believe not everyone would benefit from romantic love. HOWEVER, platonic love, and love from friends and family, is indeed something that can benefit EVERYONE. Great points made in the video nonetheless

A personal mantra of mine is: “I’m an average nobody.” Not in a self deprecating way, but as a way to keep myself intellectually humble and grounded. To remind myself that, as you said, I’m not above the human experience. When that arrogance grows, the need for supremacy grows with it. Thank you for sharing this very important and insightful message.

I agree with most of what you said but i do have one issue - namely the idea that we evolutionarily want to find a mate/partner. You can argue to acertain extent that this is true but the issue comes with the fact that everything you consider to be the meaning of a partner in general is something told to us by society (most of which fits under amatonormativity) but, as someone who’s aroace, it is certainly not a disorder to not want any kind of partner/mate.

Id like to expand this into people who forget that unless you grow your own food, source your own water and build your own home from scratch(hunter gatherer style) you rely on others to survive. You need people, community and more. We owe it to each other to not forget that when we step out into a shared world and not get too caught up in ego

I dont think the effort and risk is worth it. Maybe I will lack a human experience but thats a problem that maybe my future me have. I rather miss some happy moments to avoid more sad moments. Lets take a relationship (could be friends or romantic partner). If the relationship ends (except its caused by death), every good experience becomes a bad experience and every ressource (time, money, effort) you spend was wasted.
If you optimize your life for happiness, that could ruin your whole life. To much risk for to less reward
