Ultra-black materials were originally developed for aerospace optics and precision sensors, where stray light can ruin performance, which makes seeing this effect on a massive street vehicle feel even more bizarre. The Hummer was coated using Musou Black, a famous Japanese ultra-matte acrylic paint designed to trap light and eliminate surface detail, mimicking the void-like properties of specialized carbon nanotube coatings.
