@blk.table.talk: Most people hear “Afro American” and think only of Black Americans in the United States. Malcolm X was saying in the 1960s that two thirds of Brazil is of African blood, that Afro Cubans, Afro Brazilians, and Black people across the Caribbean, South America, Central America, and Canada are all part of the same family. 100 million people in the Western Hemisphere with the same roots. His argument was simple: until all of them are organized, in each place they exist, and then connected to one another, the power that exists in those numbers means nothing. We are still having this conversation. The diaspora wars distract from the fact that we were never supposed to see ourselves as one people. That was by design.
