@wishbonekitchen: featuring a very enthusiastic visitor 🌱 tbh I’ve been harvesting wrong this entire time so I’m v excited to see how much of a difference this makes 🤓
You don’t have to wait for it flower. As long as there are 3 notches, the more pruning the better

Once you have 3-4 sets of true leaves you can start pinching guys! You don't have to wait (and shouldn't) for the plant to flower, you want to avoid flowering

Basil actually can get quite bitter and licorice tasting if it’s harvesting during flower! It will continue to make new leaves even after it flowers tho! I was a basil farmer for a long time

You just walk outside and cut how many leaves you need for what you’re making that day. It’s really simple.

What about rosemary? I just got a rosemary plant and don’t know when it’s too soon to prune

The plant will continue to grow, no need to wait to prune/harvest. I prune weekly and it grows back with vengeance.

Once they develop flowers they stop growing and the leaves get tough and bitter. Start pinching them off as soon as they are about 6 inches

I pinch as soon as they have more than 3 true leaves :) you do not need to wait for it to go to seed

Will it affect my basil if I have a cat who hates to go outside? Should I rent a dog for my container garden?

Don’t wait to prune!! Once the plant is 6-8 inches prune just above two new sprouts

I pruned early and I have so much basil. you dont need it to flower- and in fact when it starts to flower it is too late and the plant is entering its reproductive phase. it will direct its energy towards flowers rather than leaves.

That is absolutely false. If you wait until the basil flowers the whole plant turns bitter. I have a lot of it growing in garden and I cannot even give it away. No one wants it. I am convinced no one actually eats it.
