@theventuringhomestead: Having a sourdough starter is NOT like having a baby, which is how a lot of people make it sound lol. Don’t feel like baking? Put it in the fridge. Going out of town? Put it in the fridge. Swamped with life? PUT IT IN THE FRIDGE. As long as it’s mature, it’ll come back to life when you’re ready to bake. Why do I call my homestead “The Venturing Homestead”? Well, because we like to venture off. Whether it’s vacation or a hunting trip, we skip out on the daily routine for some adventure pretty often. My starter is ok with that and thrives regardless if she’s in the fridge for a week, a month, or longer! #sourdough #sourdoughstarter #hacks #tipsandtricks #sourdoughbread
Sourdough confuses me 😩😩😩 I’ve watched so many videos and still feel like I don’t get it lol

If it’s been in the fridge for probably close to a year, think that it will still come back to life? 🫣

My starter has doubled on day 3.. I’ve read that it’s not ready. Should I discard some or keep feeding?

What if I’m storing mine in the fridge in between baking weekly with it. Do I just take it out a few days before I’m going to use it revive it? What if it’s consistently being stored in the fridge. Do you feed it cold in the fridge to keep it active?

I just started my own starter last week. It bubbled and double like Day 4 but I just fed as normal. It hasn’t done that again for a bit. I do get the hooch on top, not everyday though. I just discarded some because I was running out of room. I’m not sure if I’m at the point I can use it.

I had mine in the fridge for a few months.. I got it out and fed it for the past 5 days. How long do I need to keep feeding it until I can bake with it?

Did you put it into the fridge at peak or just whenever? I have travel and just did a big feed so I'm needing to do the same for the first time.

What happens when your starter is left out for three days without feeding? Is it trash.

Thank you!!!!!!!! I had to put my starter in the fridge since I work M-F and found it was becoming too much trying to keep my starter on the counter. I’ve been a little stressed thinking about where to begin with reviving it and this helped so much. This is exactly why you were the first sourdough creator I followed, everything is simple 🤌🏾 I can’t wait to try the cinnamon rolls you just posted!!
