Although politics affects our lives in ways we cannot control, being apolitical is a choice of neutrality and a refusal to take any standpoint. With that being said, people can be apolitical because they choose to be, where or not they acknowledge how politics affects them. Without any actionable standpoint, inaction doesn't always translate to agreement or consent.

Absolutely agree with this. I like the definition of politics simply as how we live with each other. Thus, Everything is political. I like less the definition that politics is what prevents us from going back to the “state of nature” because of the framing but it is useful

Night sky🇨🇦 :
In a democracy, the vitally important control mechanism is that the people are able to intelligently choose a political side in order to put into effect positive change. Being apolitical undermines the fabric of democracy. It leaves the burden and responsibility of thinking and more effectively acting on said thinking, to a smaller group of people. If you want to be neutral you are effectively saying that others may think for you and you don’t care who it will be.

what if, bieng a political means recognising thet both sides have a big chunk of truth in what they believe or fight for and knowing that you need both sides to move forward

Could "apolitical" meant being disillusioned with politics, as in what's being campaigned are not being followed in relavant/meaningful policy changes?

I think its most popular meaning nowadays is "don't push your worries onto me in this moment". You can attack the saying when taken to its most extreme semantic meaning, but I'd take that as an unwillingness to truthfully engage with others.

I label myself as apolitical but I chose not to be ignorant about politics. Even with psychology and philosophy, politics plays an important role. Everything is political and we cannot escape it.
