@marstonghefner: My father was a professional when it came to leaving reality and entering a different world. He was so good, in fact, that it became his business. I think inevitably, through some freak unconscious act, i also wanted to get away so bad, from school, from teenage angst, from feeling like I simply dont fit in. Contrary to that, I felt I always belonged reading Holes, or Harry Potter, or The Hobbit and felt an immense amount of peace when I finally understood I wanted to help others leave this place as well. ❤️🇯🇵💥

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately because I no longer have that same excitement I felt as a child/teenager when picking up a new book. I’ve spent the last few years carefully creating my life and making it more comfortable, and no longer feel that neat or desire to escape like I used to.

We had a library we could walk to as a child. It was the only consistent part of my life. I lived and breathed reading. Books saved me. I hear you.

Tolkein talks on the Faerie stories and explains why it's important for some to retreat for self preservation. I'm OBSESSED with LOTR and The Hobbit rt now. Finding those subtle realms keeps some of us sane.

I spent my entire childhood reading, or at the library. I now know it was an escape, it got me out of the world I didn’t want to be in. I really understand this, thank you for sharing. Yes, I love to read, but at one time it was my total escape

I feel like having the time and energy to become this introspective is the real privilege that comes from not having to work 40 hours a week. It's really beautiful and I think all humans deserve it.
