@bymuseum: The Taking of Christ (1602) By Caravaggio 📍 National Gallery of Ireland, Dublin This painting begins with a kiss. But it is not love. Judas has just identified Christ. The guards move in. A disciple escapes into the dark. Everyone is packed so close that the painting feels almost impossible to breathe inside. Then look at Christ. He does not fight the moment. His face is calm. His hands are folded. Around Him, the whole scene is collapsing into pressure and shadow. On the far right, a man holds a lantern. Many believe this is Caravaggio himself, watching everything happen. In The Taking of Christ, the most frightening thing is not the darkness. It is how close everyone is. 👉 Follow @bymuseum for vivid stories and hidden meanings in classical art.
