This technique makes multiplying by 11, easy peasy ‘leven squeezy 🤓 If we have to multiply a two-digit number by 11, we can just add those digits and stick the answer in the middle: 36x11 ✨3+6=9️⃣ ✨Stick the 9 in between the 3 and 6 36x11=39️⃣6 ⛔️If the digits add up to 10 or more, we’ll have to carry a 1: 39x11 ✨3+9=12 ✨Stick the 2 in between the 3 and 9, add the 1 to the 3 39x11=42️⃣9 Why does this work? 🤔 Multiplying a number by 11 is the same as multiplying by 10 then adding another lot of the number. Look what happens if we do that vertically: 35x10=350 35x1= 35 See how the two digits of 35 would get lined up to be added to make the middle digit of the answer? That’s what we’re relying on here.
