After tearing my ACL four times in eight years, I opted not to get a fourth knee surgery. That might sound crazy, and maybe a little stupid, but after discovering these revolutionary exercises from @Ben Patrick, I found that I could strengthen my knees to the point where I no longer felt surgery was necessary. Now, I am by no means telling you not to get ACL surgery if you’re dealing with a full tear, but no matter where you are at in your ACL or Knee Health journey, these exercises are absolute game changers when it comes to healing your knees. Here’s a breakdown on each movement: ATG Split Squat: Also known as the Ass to Grass Split Squat. This exercise is excellent for building strength in the quadriceps, hamstrings, and glutes while encouraging proper hip and knee alignment, which helps distribute forces evenly across the joint, reducing the risk of ACL stress. Tibialis Raise: This exercise targets the muscles in the front of the shin, promoting better balance in the lower leg and ankle stability. If you’re ankles and lower legs are stronger, your knees (and ACL’s) will thank you. Eccentric Nordics: Eccentric Nordics focus on the controlled lengthening (eccentric) phase of the hamstring muscles, promoting strength and flexibility. Developing hamstring strength is crucial for ACL protection, as strong hamstrings help stabilize the knee joint and reduce stress on the ACL during dynamic movements. Backwards Sled Drags: A staple in the @Athletic Truth Group’s programing. Backwards sled drags target the posterior chain, including the hamstrings and glutes, improving overall leg strength and power. Strengthening the posterior chain helps balance the forces acting on the knee joint, providing additional support to the ACL. Incorporating these exercises into my kneehab routine has helped me to regain the strength and satiability to do what I love, and I’m confident they can help you on your knee health journey too.
