Here’s the hypocrisy. I literally spent my life around gay men. My absolute hero is my grandpa, shot on 3 separate occasions in WWII, came back to fight so more. He opened a gay bar (“The Salty Dog”…yeah….I know) in the early 50’s! Me and my wife go to Miami 2 to 3 times a year to visit my cousin and his husband. And without fail, every time I go there his husband tells me how he can ‘turn me out.’ it doesn’t bother me in the least because it’s the 10,000th time I’ve heard it. As a heterosexual male, in many of those cases I find flattering. Overall doesn’t offend me. my cousin, his husband, my wife and I were sitting at an outside table of a cafe. (You really can’t make shit this up). My cousin went on a tangent of how immoral it was to ‘out’ someone, which I 100% agree with. His adding on ‘Queens need to stop telling every heterosexual male, they could switch them.’ Which I also agreed with. for next 50 minutes, with them watching men walk by. Was trying to either ‘out’ them, giving scores on outfits or pointing the ones they could switch. My cousin and I grew up very close and my Grandpa called me ‘Meathead’ my cousin ‘Meatball.’ I think I was 10-12yro, when I him “why don’t you sound like or walk like other men at your bar?” His answer was swift and beautifully typical of his character; if someone were to and did ask if I was gay or not. “First off, that’s an insanely offensive question. Ask a person if they was gay or straight, what people do in their bedrooms isn’t anyone’s business, unless that person decided they wanted ppl to know what they do in there bedroom…but since your asked….yes I’m gay, gayer than a pink Christmas Tree (truly my favorite thing he ever said), “I don’t act a particular way or speak in a specific manner where they have every right do, being gay isn’t a choice. Those mannerisms are” then he pointed to my PopPop (his partner) dressed like ‘Helen Roper’ from 3’s company. The one thing he said he wanted to stick. If Harvey Milk (he knew closely and crazy enough Salvador Dali), was on top of a float w biker hat, pierced nipples, cutoff short-short jeans, there would be no Harvey Milk.”
