Working in a hospital has really opened my eyes to ALOTTTT of things. Every single day, I’m super grateful to God that my family and I don’t have serious health issues because not only is sickness stressful for the patient and their family, it is also one of the FASTEST WAYS TO DRAIN A FAMILY’S WEALTH!! 😭 Today, a woman was losing a TON of blood during childbirth, and her family had already spent so much that they couldn’t afford more pints of blood. Doctors were literally going from department to department looking for blood donors because if they couldn’t get it, she was going to die. I mean, we volunteered because WHAT DO YOU MEAN SHE WAS GOING TO DIE?! 💀😭 (I couldn’t donate though because I have a SERIOUS phobia of extremely large needles 😭 and I was on a blood recovery journey.) Then I was in the ICU conducting a drug test for a patient and saw an oxygen mask on him. I asked the nurse how much oxygen cost and she said ₦7,500 PER HOUR. 😭 This man had been there for weeks. Imagine the oxygen bill alone, not to mention medication, treatment, room charges, investigations and everything else. Honestly, it has made me appreciate God’s goodness SO MUCH. The gift of sleeping and waking. Breathing. Eating. Walking. Good health. Having my family alive and well. We take these things for granted because they’re part of our everyday lives, but they are PRIVILEGES, not rights. If you think waking up, breathing and being healthy are your rights, go ahead and try to pay for them till you die. 😭 Lord, thank You for the blessings I sometimes forget are blessings.
