@channelnewsasia: Is it fair that only boys can be caned in Singapore schools? And how effective is caning as a punishment? Under current Ministry of Education (MOE) rules, caning is a last resort for male students in serious cases like bullying and repeated misconduct. Girls who commit the same offences can still face suspension or detention — just not corporal punishment. We look at how caning is implemented in schools, what experts say about its effectiveness, and the wider debate over discipline and accountability in schools. #sgnews #singapore
wait so u didn’t answer the question u only said why it doesn’t work? so why wasn’t caning ruled out for both male and female and why did they start canning only boys again and not the girls too before the public came to realise that it wasn’t affective? for the rehabilitation of the children?

canning isn't fair at all!! Gender equality, they say. However, if its only for one gender , the other party may seem that it is okay to commit the crime repeatedly as they cannot get such punishments. I have seen arguments saying that it hurts girls, so why not remove it entirely? give the boys the same punishments the MOE gives the girls. if they say "not enough!!" it clearly shows the message that the punishments leading the the girls side is not harsh enough. another thing is that physical pain may not always lead to learning the consequences. But some children in this day and age , are also extremely stubborn so I sort of get what the schools are trying to do.

Tradition says guide well, and values will remain,
But respect born from fear is only hollow gain;
Our way builds character through wisdom, not the cane —
Teach with heart and love, and goodness shall sustain.

Schools are not courts. Simple. If you inherently teach that boys deserve bigger punishment then you inadvertently create the notion that boys will be more accountable to their actions. So next time I see a female MP running for elections, why would I vote for her ??
