Im gonna say it, I don't care: Saiyan Saga is peak dragon ball. Not as iconic as Frieza Saga (because of duh, of course), but definetly on par in terms of battle and corrography. Both fights against Nappa and Vegeta are peak, easly above many fights post-Namek

fun fact: at lot of times you'll see seemingly random numbers on the covers of these manga volumes. they're actually the original volume number because in Japan Dragonball and "Dragonball Z" were one congruent story just called Dragonball the whole time. so the reason Piccolo is wearing a button with the number 20 on it is because this was originally Dragonball vol. 20

I love the themes in this fight. "hard work beats talent when talent doesnt work hard" goku has to push himself from the start, using a technique that literally forces him beyond his limits, and meets all vegeta's challenges in earnest. vegeta, on the other hand, repeatedly underestimates his opponent based on a class structure that goku has no concept of, and has to get humbled by the kaiōken and goku's sheer determination. still my fav fight of all time
