@occupationalemily: ✂️When kids practice scissor skills, they’re strengthening their visual-motor skills. Visual-motor skills allow kids to coordinate visual input from their eyes with motor/tactile input from their hands! Visual-motor skills are what allow kids to form letters when they start writing-they’re important! 🫶I know you’re worried about safety, I’m a mom, too! Start with fully plastic scissors to help both you and your child build confidence. ➡️Like everything, make sure you’re keeping scissor practice fun! It doesn’t have to be drawn out or complicated. Simple, fun, 10-minute crafts are the best way to build up scissor skills in preschoolers 👋🏻If you’re new here, I’m Emily! I’m a peds OT and a mom of 3 littles-all under four years old. My goal as a mom is to never stop crafting myself so my child wants to craft alongside me!

Yes 🙌🏻 my 3 1/2 year old has straight lines mostly down. We’ve been working on handwriting since she turned three, and she’s able to write the whole alphabet by herself. The scissor book helped a lot with strengthening her hand to prepare her for writing!
