There’s also stories about Louis XIV’s court composer, Jean-Baptiste Lully (who was actually from Italy), being caught backstage with a male page. Supposedly, Louis criticized Lully’s “Italian passions” and didn’t attend that particular opera (believed to be Armide), but otherwise didn’t punish him.
