It forms when highly saline water evaporates, allowing sodium and chlorine ions to crystallise into cubic structures. That’s why halite commonly develops sharp geometric crystal shapes. Moroccan halite can range in colour from: colourless, white, orange/red, smoky and occasionally blue tones. Because halite is highly water-soluble, collectors usually keep it dry and away from humidity.
