tbh the wife here sounds awful. it sounds like she likes to be in charge of everything and dislikes that he has a hoby outside of her. amd in all honesty maybe it is time she started working and paying for her own luxuries if this is how she treats the household finances. she gets to spend money on something she wanted but he cant spend on what he wants? nah. its all or nothing.

I agree, the big issue is she thinks it’s fair for her to get at least 45k for her stuff, but when he wants a fraction of that (was curious so I worked it out his rig is about it’s about 8% of what he spent on her), for his hobby, especially one that won’t eat into family time since he can’t be home in those hours anyways, it becomes a waste of money.

I'll go one further, I don't even think you need to check with your S/O for a $3,700 purchase, when he brings in $170k a year. that's literally less than one paycheck. especially if it's not coming out of a joint account, but his own spending money. the only reason I could see this being an issue, is if it's a reoccurring issue.
