I’m a professional artist. My dad doesn’t like most of my art. Only my drawings. I was never upset about it because I understand ppl have different tastes. Also that’s a large painting! And the people who have spent over 40k over the years on my art is the only opinion I listen to lol

NTA. With kindness, because it was a gift she made for you, explain that while you appreciate the thoughtfulness of the gift, her art style is not your favorite and not something you want to decorate your house with. If that explanation isn't good enough, then let them be mad.

That’s a big picture in a small house! I paint and have only given people things like hand painted cards or glasses bc I would never impose my art on someone else. Let alone that big of a painting.

I’m not saying that they are the ah, I’m just saying, I love my son more than I would hate a painting, and if hanging a painting that my daughter-in-law made for me Made everyone happy I don’t care how much I hated it. It’s a small thing to give to make people that I love happy. But that’s just who I am.

Giving someone art you made in a certain style is like giving someone a meal you made in a certain style. If you give someone a meal you made and it turns out they don't like how spicy it is, would you cry if they didn't sit there and finish the whole plate? Or would you make a mental note that they don't like spicy food and - if you wanted to keep making meals for them - think to ask them what kind of food they *do* prefer?

I have kind of a similar dilemma. I always get clothes for my kids I really don't like. When I don't put it on them I feel ungrateful and when I do let them wear the clothes, when we visit the people who gave them to us, I'm giving the impression, I really like them
