Some days body dysmorphia convinces me I’m not enough. Not pretty enough. Not skinny enough. Not doing enough. Then mum guilt joins in and tells me I should be more patient, more present, more organised, more everything. And anxiety? Anxiety makes every little thing feel huge. Add chronic pain and disability into the mix and honestly… it can feel overwhelming. People don’t always see the exhaustion behind the smile, the pain behind the “I’m okay,” or the mental battle of trying to be a good mum while your body is fighting against you every single day. There’s guilt in needing rest. Guilt in cancelling plans. Guilt in not being able to do things the way you wish you could. And guilt that my husband has to help look after me when I wish I could just be the person I used to be. I hate feeling like a burden sometimes. I hate that the person I love has to watch me struggle. But loving someone also means standing beside them through the hard days, not just the easy ones. Body dysmorphia becomes even louder when illness changes your body, your mobility, your confidence, and the way you see yourself. It’s exhausting fighting battles in your own mind while still trying to show up for everyone else. But amongst all of those thoughts, I also know how lucky I am. I have a husband who loves me through every version of myself, even on the days I struggle to love myself. I have two beautiful boys who give me purpose, laughter, cuddles, and reasons to keep pushing through even the hardest days. I have a home filled with love. And I have a job with people around me who support and understand me more than they probably realise. So while my mind can sometimes focus on everything I’ve lost or everything I wish I could do differently, I’m also trying to remind myself of everything I still have. A life that, despite the pain and struggles, is still full of love. I’m learning that struggling doesn’t make me lazy, weak, or a bad mum, wife, or person. It makes me human. Some days surviving is enough. Some days getting out of bed, making the lunches, managing the pain, going to work, or simply holding it together is an achiev
