As a 20 year teacher, you are absolutely correct. I was well aware going in that I wouldn't get rich off of just teaching. But the emotional reward knowing you're helping these children learn and grow as humans is worth it.

My dad just fully retired from propane tech at 70 because it's so hard to find people anymore and let me tell you he was working 3 days a week and 8 hour days and was making more than my husband who's a grocery store manager. Trade school isn't a bad idea

I always encourage kids to seek out community colleges or state schools for their education, especially if they go into any of these. There is no reason to pay 40 grand a year to become a teacher. We have a branch of the state school in my town and you can get the same teaching degree for 20 grand or less than going to a large private university. Both of you were equally qualified and neither matter in the long run. Crazy.

Don’t mistake this with not going to college and flipping burgers for the rest of your life. If you’re not entrepreneurial, go to college for a useful degree, or else 99% of you will be a useless burnout in poverty for the rest of your life

My daughter is 12 and wants to work in the ocean. She is an open water scuba diver and wanted to go into college to become a marine biologist. She just learned about underwater welding and is not thinking she wants to do that first.

As a college graduate I would advise people to get into a certification program or get into trade. Anything healthcare/construction/HVAC. Degrees aren’t worth it anymore unless you’re getting into something that’s in high demand. Most jobs nowadays don’t want to train anyone.
