The only way you can get through it is to keep it in historical context. Study what life was like then, what was normal then. You can’t evaluate it against modern standards. Horrific? Yes. Life was, compared to today. Context matters.

its truly sad what this kid endured. And I have to say from my own personal experience that these type of things were still happening in the 80s. I was a 12yr old and put in an adult psychiatric unit for 3 months and the things I endured are unimaginable. I can just imagine how difficult this was to read. And I agree taking a lil break may be needed and thats ok.
