I brought my platelets trending up with my Family MD for years… Up. Up. Never down. I was told it was stress, anxiety, hormones blah blah blah. About 8 years later he gets sick and leaves his practice. I see an NP before I don’t have a family MD. Sent to Haematology, I have a rare form of chronic Leukemia, Myeloproliferative Leukaemia. 🤷🏼‍♀️I’m also a nurse……

I had an appointment with a back surgeon in Toronto and he wanted me to bring a MRI with me. I had an MRI done at my local office and when my doctor received the results her office called to say that there was normal wear on lower vertebrae for my age . And for the pain I was experiencing was something physio and meds would work for me.

I was in the hospital for 3 weeks and I weaned myself off a 30 year Ativan addiction. Totally my choice. When I was discharged, the doctor gave me a prescription for, you guessed it, Ativan 😳.

Broke my foot and I knew coz I had broken it two times before. But how it got broken was so funny I could not stop laughing. My sister was there with me. Because I was laughing and not complaining about pain they denied me for xray. I stayed there over 12 hours after being seen by few male doctors. Finally I got to see female who put me to xray and find out I had three broken bones. Cast for 7 weeks. The thing is I deal pretty good with pain. But every male doc said nobody with broken bones laughs so much. You must be in pain if you are broken. I was in pain.

I went into the hospital because I was sick and the nurse scolded me for letting my blood sugar go so high. Tried to tell me I was a Type 2 diabetic, turns out I was type one and on the wrong meds for a few days.

1/2—I was injured in a car accident years ago-I had a serious case of whiplash which tore the ligaments holding my skull on my spine and holding my spine together so my skull is not fully attached and my neck is like a half played game of jenga with my vertebrae sliding forwards and backwards when I move. It’s caused brainstem compression and spinal cord compression-these are serious and dangerous findings. But we do not want to acknowledge, diagnose and/or treat this life-threatening problem in Canada (I had to obtain imaging and diagnosis outside of Canada). Here, our health system will only acknowledge/diagnose/treat if the cause is something like Rheumatoid Arthritis, Down Syndrome, but not if the cause is ligament injury/dysfunction (dysfunction such as in cases with connective tissue diseases).

I have sooooooooooo many, I don’t even know which one to pick. Not just for me but for my two kids as well. The medical system hasn’t treated me very well in my life. I think my most unhinged one was when I had been dealing with severe, unexplained neck pain that led to profound numbness that affected the entire upper right quadrant of my body and I couldn’t be upright without having to use my hands to hold my head up because the pain was that bad. I’d had a spinal fusion a year previous that was showing signs of failure and so I was on very strong pain medication to help manage it and so when I went to the hospital, I live in a small town with no walk in clinics, to have it investigated I was very open and upfront about the meds I was on and explained what was happening, how the pain was unmanageable and that I really felt I needed an Xray. I also explained that both my Mom and Sister have MS and I asked if it was a possibility that this could be a presentation of MS for myself and would referring me out for an MRI be a logical choice to make given the family history. He literally laughed at me as he was looking at his palm pilot, this was back in 2003, and said “I think you have been reading too much and are trying to sound smart but you’re not. Your supposed numbness makes no sense for anything neck related and the fact that you don’t have weakness as well, just shows me that you need to change your reading material”. I was so confused and I said to him “ok, but if you took a lighter to my arm, I literally wouldn’t feel it, that’s not normal” and he said “well I can guarantee it’s not that dramatic”. He didn’t even examine me and he said “you already take prescription pain meds, I’m sure you have Cyclobenzaprine(muscle relaxer), just take those and you’ll be fine” and so I said “so I’m not even going to get an XRay?” And he said “nope, you don’t need it, just take the muscle relaxers, stop playing doctor and you’ll be fine” and he started to walk out so I said, “I don’t have any of those meds can I get a prescription?” And as he walked out he said, “nope but you seem crafty, I’m sure you can get them from somewhere” and he left. I went to ER with leg pain and collapsing randomly, seeing double (I had to wear an eye patch) and they said I was dehydrated. Pumped me with fluids and potassium. Sent me home from the ER 3 TIMES, until I finally fell in front of the Dr. and hit the toilet in the room. I was admitted for 3 months with severe nerve damage and had to learn to walk again.

Went to the doctor with a swollen ankle. Doctor said it was just because I was getting older (I was 36). Turns out it was a deep vein thrombosis which broke away and caused a pulmonary embolism. After I was released from the hospital the same doctor remarked “that could have killed you”.

I was in my second trimester and I woke up to what felt like my water breaking. Went to a doctor he examined me and when he was done said I had a very bad yeast infection , which I didn’t believe but took what he said and went home with meds for it. NOPE my water had broke and a week later I was in the hospital and delivered a baby who didn’t make it.

I started to sweat real bad at work one day like hair plastered to my face type sweat. I started to feel heartburn and then it felt like an elephant was sitting on my chest. My jaw felt like I had eaten a pound of beef jerky. I went to the hospital on my own and they told me I was a basically just a girl. (33) we are emotional and it was just anxiety. Just go home they said. I refused to leave. 6 hours later and an er shift change brought in a new Dr. He finally listened and recognized that I was having a heart attack and I was medivaced out that night. I spent 11 days in an icu. That day has forever changed my life.

My primary doctor told me I needed to see a specialist for my thyroid levels because I was very hypothyroidism. My appointment was 4 months away. It was the worse experience I have ever experienced and I have had cancer 3 times. I couldn’t begin to sleep, I began to have diarrhea so bad you can’t imagine. One night I just wanted to sleep so I just chugged from a bottle of vodka to pass out. Everything kept getting worse. I began falling for no reason. Finally I went to the er the doctor was so nice. He personally called and got me into a doctor the next day. All I really needed at the beginning was thyroid medication that my primary should have prescribed me instead of making me wait. Because of waiting so long I also began to get thyroid eye disease. It was terrible 😢. Diagnosed with Graves’ disease and bye bye thyroid and now I’m great. But my primary dropped the ball!!! I kept calling her and telling her what was happening to me

ok here goes.... unexplained syncope... hospitalized for ten days.... told by my cardiologist that it's heart related and that they want to send me to Ottawa Heart Institute by air ambulance..... cardiologist from Sudbury is continuously talking with collages in Ottawa to try to figure out why my heart is beating up too 215bpm which is supposedly causing me to pass out. Told that I'm being transferred to Ottawa via air ambulance the next morning. Next morning arrives, my Sudbury cardiologist comes into my room and DISCHARGES ME!!!! No explanation no reason not even telling me why I'm no longer going to Ottawa. To this day I continue to experience unexplained syncope. I'm injuring myself with these unpredictable episodes. I've broken an arm , busted up my face due to breaking my noise and on and on !!! Fun isn't!!!

I had gone to er from 2 days of really bad endometriosis flare. the pain med I had wasn't working. Just really really bad. the dr asked me if I had taken the pain med. I said I tried and it didn't work. he accused me of being a opiate seeker. when i had my husband pull out the bottle there was alot still there. then the dr asked why haven't I been taking them. again I said they dont work with this level of pain. he went on to accuse me of collecting the unused pills to sell.. because I was in so so much pain and that dr obviously didn't care my husband went to talk to someone else. they had ordered some imaging. came back that I had a 12 cm. tumor growing off my ovary. the new dr that had found it came back into the room with the uncaring one and he apologized to me. they ended up admitting me and the tumor ended up being cancer.

I have too many but the latest one.. I’ve had gallstones for 12 years, but when I went to the ER for gallbladder attacks the doctor said I didn’t have any because they weren’t mentioned on an old CT report. Then he grabbed the ultrasound machine and immediately found them 😅 Had a proper ultrasound after, and turns out I have a stone lodged in the neck of my gallbladder. Getting surgery soon to take it out.

I was 35 weeks pregnant and knew something was seriously wrong… baby wasn’t moving and I felt unwell. Several calls to the midwives… I felt dismissed. Drove myself to the hospital. They didn’t take me seriously and kept me waiting a long time in the hallway. Eventually I was taken into a room, monitors on me and bam - emergency C section to save his life. His HR was in the 30’s. He would not have made it if I hadn’t demanded they check him out

I once was really depressed. Went to my doctor. He asked what do you do for a living? I am a social worker. He replied: Oh you are that kind of person that seek up problems? This being said when I was crying and there was no doubt I had a depression.

It’s not that unhinged but I woke up middle of night with severe abdominal pain and hard belly. I let it slide (I’m a gassy gal). But it never went away. I thought it was my appendix. The next day I went to urgent care and the female doctor said “it’s probs not your appendix. It’s probably just a uterine infection”. Here’s an ultrasound 4 days from now. The next morning I went to work (first responder) and I threw up 5 times before I even when in my work rig. My work partner drove me to the hospital and made me go. It was the appendix. How and why would I have a uterine infection lmao. If I waited for that ultrasound I’d be dead. I had surgery within 2 hours of being in the hospital (which, in Canada, you get how fast that is)

Bleeding out every month. Doctor insisted it was because I drank too much?! I don’t drink. He never asked me if I drank. But he would NOT hear that I don’t drink. Took 8yrs of that to get a hysterectomy… had fibroids that cumulatively were the size of a basketball. (Not sure how drinking alcohol would have had any effect on that even if I did drink a lot?). My ex husband was there for that appointment, even, because he didn’t believe I was being gaslit.
