I used this when I taught 5th grade. It saved the hassle of trying to get kids to get a book, especially in my low income area. I was able to give them supplemental materials for the vocabulary not mentioned

FYI, this book was designed for 5/6 grade bands that meet 1-2 times a week. That’s why the fingering charts are everywhere.

thanks for the overview. my district is moving away from Sound Innovations next year and I've already decided to move from folders to binders. This could be a great alternative

I teach high school band, and I had a group of woodwinds that wanted to learn to play brass for fun. This book was great for them because they already know the vocabulary and they could just play progressively more challenging songs. I had to do a little more work on teaching them the mechanics and technique of the individual instruments, but you have to do that regardless. Plus, you can't beat free

I love this one. The fingering chart and scales alone are worth printing if you use nothing else.

Omg it's so cool to see you review this one! I've used the book 1 (we jump around in it and I've added my own materials) for years and then, after they finish that, then I move them into a more standard method book, skipping the first few pages. It's worked really well for me! I love starting them with the larger font and simple, clear pages.

Is there any way you could share some (or more than some) of your supplemental material?

LOVED using this book. Great tunes, students feel like they make fast progress because it’s bigger on the page, logical progression, no BS. And FREE!

Have seen this a couple of times, and I'm debating using it as a supplemental song packet to tie in with a method book. Gonna have some fun looking at this over the summer

I love this! I’m not interested in anything around the notes because a good teacher is going to teach those things anyway. I love that it has lots of songs that they know! I collected a lot of lines from the Rubank series for clarinet and saxophone and have used it over the past couple of years. It works great even for the brass, but the kids get frustrated because there’s not many songs they know. I may use this to supplement.
