@mark_decola: We got it repaired and that’s what counts! 💪🏼 the @YesWelder MP200 PRO impressed me once again! #weld #repair #heavyequipment #mechanic #restore
Not trying to be hard on you, but ALWAY ALWAYS ALWAYS unhook modules when welding on machines. ECM’s, Clutch control modules, screens is they’re canbus, emission modules, etc etc. welding on a machine is the number 1 failures of modules that i see.

Welder here, great job for not being a welder! Way to grind out that crack, and drill out the ends. In my experience if something breaks once in a spot it probably will again since it’s a high stress point. Definitely wouldn’t hurt to add a fish plate to either side of the boom to reinforce the area, make sure you cover the hydraulic cylinders when you weld over them, and remember to clean your welds with a wire wheel and paint so it doesn’t rust!

I’m no welder but this plate is the cause of the crack, you should make it bigger

i am a welding inspector and by what i can tell by seeing a video i think you did a pretty good job. Remember to heat up the piece before welding, remove more paint around the crack, grind more root.

Why not weld this with Stick or TIG? I thought that for this application Stick and TIG would be a Stronger option.

please do not use that 50 amp plug to back feed your panel with a generator... you will essentially need a death cable to back feed from the generator to the house. the generator side should always have the "female" plug (twist lock) and the house side should have the "male" (twist lock). the current set up would require you to have a dual male ended cable causing a the house side to be a live end if the generator was running while you were to pull in or unplug the house side. you can get the proper plugs at any big box hardware store or Amazon for relatively cheap.

I'm not a welder anymore than you are but I hope you disconnected your battery terminals. When welding anything with a battery you run the risk of having a surge fry your electronics ie gauge cluster, ecm, PCM, etc

Probably should have covered that cylinder for the bucket. cuz I’m sure you now have spatter all over it and will destroy them seals.

Always cover your rams spatter kills seals real quick and I’d have put 2 passes over the top not 1 but all good. I’d also do some fish plates coz it will crack again even tho you fixed it right
