@jerryinfrontofthings22: Fort Jefferson: This enormous military fort built in the mid-1800s on a tiny island off the coast of Florida is one of the most unique buildings in the USA. Despite its enormous scale (it is the largest brick masonry building in the Americas/16,000,000 bricks!) and construction expense, Fort Jefferson was used only briefly as a fort; later uses were as a prison, a coal refueling station for ships, a base for marine biology research, and now open for visitors.
