If China got to America first they would probably just leave because they'd likely find: A. Alaska, cold tundra worthless to the Chinese B. California, which is a large portion desert, so not much use there or C. Oregon/Washington/British Columbia, which admittedly a bit better but may still not have been worth the trouble

China didn't need anything, it was already trading with other empires for what it wanted. Meanwhile Europe wanted silk, spices, porcelain, in fact the colonization of South America was to facilitate trade with China who only accepted silver, sugar, chocolate and tobacco.
