My husband spent most of his life at sea, working as a cargo ship captain and crossing oceans for decades. After retiring, he didn’t want an ordinary house on land. He wanted something that would always keep him connected to the life he lived between storms, ports, and endless horizons. So we started building something almost nobody could believe. Near a remote rocky coastline, we excavated a massive underground site and carefully buried an old retired cargo ship beneath the property. The lower hull became a hidden underground bunker designed for long-term self-sufficient living, while the upper navigation bridge remained above ground and became part of the home itself. Around the property, we created a peaceful coastal retreat with gardens, a large swimming pool, barbecue lounge areas, pathways, green lawns, and a solar-powered carport for the vehicles. Inside the buried ship, we built living quarters, a kitchen, storage rooms, workshops, survival systems, and hidden relaxation spaces deep underground. From the outside, it looks like a beautiful quiet home by the sea. But underneath it hides a real underground ship bunker built from the captain’s memories of life on the ocean.
