@reformedacres: This seems like such a simple thing, but I think it's so important when you have a dairy cow! 🐮 And I'm not even someone who hand milks anymore, so it's not that I prefer it so I'm saying you should know how to do it. For context, we hand milked as a couple for about 6 months and then got a milking machine for more flexibility + making the actual milking portion quicker. We are in our season of going children, so spending less time milking and more time inside washing the machine was a trade off that works for us. We LOVE using a maching, BUT that time learning how to hand milk was vital. Our machine has been down for a week now, and while it's not super convenient...it's no big deal. We've done this before, and can do it again. Don't let the time you have a machine failure be the first time you have to get the hang of hand milking.
