The scaling here is not correct. The earth is scaled down while the debris might be 0.01cm but is scaled up in the image to 1km of earth's size

Understood. However, the scale is hugely misleading. These objects are rarely larger than a car, so at this scale they would bearly be a pixel on the screen.
