I think if you have to take on family due to parents being incapacitated you should be paid like a foster parent

I am raising my daughters seven year old. We adopted her this year. It is harder than people think. As a Gigi all I want to give is love, but parenting is different. People don’t talk about those hard decisions so thank you.

I was 50 when I got my grandson. He was two months old. He just turned 20 and he just joined the army. I am the proudest grandmother ever but I struggled, but it was worth it.

My sister was 44 years old at the time, refuses to take her 15 month old grandson when her daughter had him taken by CPS. She said she was too old. So I, her baby sister, took in my great nephew and eventually adopted him. He is now 12 years old and better off with me than he would have been with his biological mother or biological grandmother. I know how you feel. You did the best thing for those children! I know it’s difficult

I was adopted by my grandparents (along with my 2-brothers). My grandmother died 5 yrs later and my single, disabled grandfather raised us alone. We thought we were rich growing up, and never wanted for anything. We also worked 24-7 on a farm. And I am blessed today for having been his!

My grandparents adopted my brother and I. I know it was hard on them. My grandad passed when we were in middle school. My grandma raised us alone with no help. I owe her everything. My brother is a doctor now and I have a stable job and MA. You’re doing the right thing. These grandchildren will recognize your sacrifice and take care of you when the time comes.

CPS fails to tell kinship caregivers that it would benefit them to obtain their foster license which allows them additional financial support. It also provides various benefits to the kiddo post parental termination/adoption. At least this is the case in WA state. Only down side is that you have to meet all the prerequisites are held to stricter set of rules (inspections, training, documentation, etc) than kinship caregivers.

You made a very difficult decision but you made the best decision for your grandkids. Your grandkids are so lucky to be so loved by the best grandma.

My grandparents had a lot of us dumped off on them. My sister and I were from birth but they babysat 6 others all the time. In a 2 bedroom one bath tiny house. My papa never made a lot of money, I don’t know how they survived. But somehow they did it, for us ❤️

Hard truth. At the worst of my addiction I lost my kids. My mother said no. I got sober 4 months later. Got custody back and have been sober for 18 years. It was really awful and hard, but I honestly think it saved my life:

I went from raising my own children to raising a grandchild while my daughter was still in high school. She had 2 other children 10 yrs later all of them are being raised by me. 35 years of raising children and I am exhausted with a 5 and 2 year old and honestly I don’t know if I have it in me to do it any longer. From the age of 18 to now 53 yrs old no break from raising children while holding down a full time job in the process. I don’t know if I can go on much longer in this situation
