need to wet it down and compact it in to your joints. that will not last, it will crumble

You need to remove the old stuff to a degree, not all but some so you have a dip in every groove. Sweep it into the grooves and compact it, otherwise it will just come out after 5 minutes.

You just need a 4:1 sharp sand:cement mix for patio slabs

I used mine over a few days and everytime I went back to it I found it was hardening until it was a solid.
