@carley2391: We receive the gift of salvation through the blood of Jesus Christ. We are all sinners - every single one of us. Yet if we die with even just one sin, we will be eternally separated from God in hell. The wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23). Fortunately for us, Jesus (who is God in the flesh) left His throne in Heaven & came to rescue us. In the Old Testament, the Israelite's were told to sacrifice pure, blemish free animals to temporarily cleanse them of their sins. The animals death replaced theirs, and they were forgiven for the time being. They had to do this over and over again because it was only temporary. In walks Jesus - fully God, fully man. He lived a perfect, sin free life - something only God could do. He was pure, blemish free like in the Old Testament because He was sin free, except this time it is a permanent cleansing of our sins for those who believe. He chose to die the most brutal death for us so we could be forgiven and made righteous through Him. He loves us that much! He paid the debt for all of our sins on that cross with the blood that He shed, and His death replaces ours - for all who believe. All we have to do is believe in our heart that Jesus died on the cross to atone for our sins, and that He rose on the third day. Believing in His blood washes our sins away, and we are saved. That is it. It is through faith in Jesus finish work on the cross. 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 "Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you-unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures," "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9) "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16) "But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness."
