Don’t see this as a big deal. Paying an extra $2400 or so in taxes right now on that $8K catch-up is irrelevant. You are making a bad assumption that they are making less income now than they will be in the future.

It’s actually better for you if you pay the taxes now and instead of on the whole amount when you retire . Because it’s a bigger amount.

I’m hoping that they don’t introduce a flat sales tax after Gen X retires. Imagine sales tax going to 30% on everything as we start withdrawing from Roth will be paying massive taxes twice.
