@consultwitciera: The company is lying to you when they say “settling” the debt helps YOU. Most of the time, it only benefits THEM. Settling a collection does NOT automatically remove it from your credit report. Let’s talk about how to actually handle these accounts the RIGHT way. A lot of times, people come to me with collections they don’t even recognize. And honestly? That confusion makes sense. In many cases, you never signed an agreement with the collection agency itself. For example: If AT&T (just an example) sells an account to “Debbie’s Debt Collectors,” that does NOT automatically mean you owe that new company without proof. Under consumer protection laws, collection agencies must be able to provide proper documentation showing: • the original account • the balance • and proof the debt belongs to YOU If they cannot properly verify the account, you have the right to dispute it and request an investigation. Too many people rush to pay collections they don’t fully understand without asking questions first. Learn your rights as a consumer before giving any company your money. Not every account is accurate. Not every collection is reporting legally. And not every debt collector can fully validate what they’re trying to collect. Please educate yourself and USE your consumer rights. #collections #fy #creditscore #credittips #credit
