@scott.austin.martin: Love does not automatically create capacity. A man can love his partner deeply and still shut down during conflict. Still avoid hard conversations. Still leave her feeling completely alone. Not because he does not care. Because he was never taught. Perform. Provide. Suppress. Push through. That was the training. Capacity was never part of it. That is the work. My book Capacity goes into exactly this. Link in bio. #nervoussystem #relationships #relationshiptips #menscoach #emotionalsafety

It ended my marriage after 20 years. We are currently “working on things “ even though our divorce was just finalized in Jan. I was hoping after being seperated for 1.5 years now he had worked on himself just like i did. I have changed and no longer tolerating things he did before such as getting loud or defensive or wanting his opinion to be the only one that counts. Well i find myself moving back into my shell and. Ot fully voicing what bothers me. It gives me anxiety to speak to him, he always shuts me down, or i feel like i an speaking to a wall. He explodes fast especially when i am not on his page. I know i am making a choice this time i dont have to stay but again i find it so hard again to have the strength to speak up or leave

Just bought this book. It’s hard to change this behavior and even harder to figure out why I struggle. But I’m trying because my wife deserves better. One of my struggles is my wife tells me “you survived 2 wars and work a high stress job but don’t fall apart but as soon as you come home you’re incapable of doing the dishes. Why?” And I struggle to answer that too because even I don’t know why. I just know “the job” needs to get done at work (at war) but once I’m home I can’t get myself going again. Luckily she’s helping me and this book is too. In the end love isn’t enough. Work needs to be put in and it’s my responsibility to put in that work

It's called emotional maturity which translates to having the emotional capacity to deal with certain situations.

Wow… this is a must-read. Unfortunately, I got this book about 25 years too late. I just completed the audiobook, and it truly explained a lot of my shortcomings. I’ve spent most of my life heavily focused on the production side — accomplishing tasks, leading, providing, solving problems, and executing. But I realized that mindset did not always translate well into my personal relationships or my ability to understand emotional capacity, both in myself and others. The skills I use every day professionally could not simply be transferred into emotional awareness and connection. This audiobook helped me better understand that disconnect. It gave language and perspective to areas where I’ve struggled for years. I’m committed to applying the daily 20-minute capacity protocol because I truly believe it can help me grow into a more emotionally available, self-aware, and balanced man. I can’t wait to start the next audiobook. I highly recommend this for men — especially men who have spent their lives producing, sacrificing, leading, and carrying responsibility, but never really learned how to process themselves emotionally.

yes...true... I finally found myself. that my thoughts aren't my identity, name the feeling in the moment to give my self just long enough to notice/catch it, look and ask myself what/where is this coming from, at that moment allows me not to anger/deflect/close off & im able to thinking and be more present. I sit i. that feeling what ever it is up to the point of spiraling/boot loopin/ out of control/reacting and move it from feeling to thinking and then rest it hard stuff. and then practice grounding/breath work/ calm my nervous system. wash rinse repeat. im still very stumbly/new, i hope what im explaining is ok/true. thank you so very much for your work/content and thankful you ✨️💙✨️
