how about loopholes to take the money out, cuz taking the money out of fhsa is tax free but if you wait to roll it into rrsp those withdrawals will be taxed.

What if I already bought my first home and am living in it actively. Can I open an FHSA and benefit from it?

add another pro move for younger and or lower income Canadians that make contributions. wait to claim the income deduction! carry it forward (indefinitely) until you are in a higher tax bracket, and then use the accumulated income tax deduction to reduce your income and save more in taxes! ( do this with a company matching RRSP plan as well).

First loophole has zero benefits, probably is way worse for you if anything

Quick question for you please: I bought a condo last year so I am not a first home buyer anymore but my fiancee currently still is. He opened his FHSA a few years ago and has been contributing. If he comes to live with me after the wedding in my owned condo, would he still be allowed to withdraw tax free from the FHSA if he then decides to buy his first home?

I just checked with my cpa and he said the account can stay open but you are not allowed to make a tax deductible contribution after any withdrawal. The contribution can grow tax free but there is no deduction which renders this move pointless

the problem is the first time you open it you will have only $8000 room it would be better to have this account opened 3 years ago so your room would be 24k

I own a home in the US. We're gong to be selling that home before immigrating to the Canada. Are we ineligible for an HSA? My guess is no, but thought it would be worth checking...
