@tilscience: Your period sheds stem cells every single month. And for most of history, we threw them away. Scientists discovered stem cells living inside endometrial tissue in the early 2000s. Some of those cells are shed during menstruation in blood that requires zero invasive procedures to collect. Researchers have already grown heart-like tissue from them in lab settings for animal studies. The endometrium rebuilds itself 400 times over a lifetime. It's one of the most regenerative tissues in the human body. And we're only just beginning to understand what that means. How many other breakthroughs are we sitting on because we decided something wasn't worth it? Sources and further reading: 1. https://doi.org/10.1095/biolreprod.103.024109 2. There’s a metaphor here - tissue that’s been treated with disgust and shame by society is actually magic - I’m just not smart enough to articulate it.

Would it (eventually) be a thing where blood banks start taking menstrual blood as blood donations as well as typical blood?
