@dr.k.sislow: What is the magic % of lost tooth structure to get a crown approved? I don’t know. It’s like Goldilocks with these insurance companies. A broken cusp is pretty much an automatic crown in a dental office. The filling material simply will not hold up to biting forces on an entire cusp. It needs either a crown or onlay. Insurance rarely pays for onlays. In this case, he needed a crown. First they said not enough missing tooth structure. Then they said there was too much tooth structure missing and the tooth is non restorable. ??? #dentist #insurance #healthcare #dentistry #privatepractice . . I work in customer service for dental providers at an insurance company. Most of the time, it’s really hard to explain why claims were denied because, in many cases, the denial was simply due to mistakes made by the insurance company’s claims department. 🤦🏻‍♀️And of course, we end up taking the blame for it. It’s really hard to work in customer service when there are no proper processes in place.

Patient needs a bridge. MetLife questioned which tooth was getting the bridge, which was getting the Pontic. We had supplied X-rays and narrative. 🫥

I’m not in the medical field but I’ve followed lots of medical people: dentists, pharmacists, physical therapists, family medicine docs, neurologists. It reinforced what I already knew: insurance and the medical system and bureaucracy sucks. And patients and by extension the medical professionals sometimes suffer bc of it.
