@jasondoroughauthor: If your answer to “who is this book for?” is “anyone who likes a good story,” you’re making marketing much harder than it needs to be. Create a clear reader persona—age, interests, what they love in books, what emotional experience they’re looking for. When you know exactly who you’re writing for, every decision in your story and marketing becomes clearer and more effective. #WritingTips #BookTok #WritersOfTikTok #IndieAuthor #TargetAudience
What was Avatar the last airbender’s target audience? It came out on Nickelodeon, but the serious moral lessons and character arcs were clearer for at least teenagers or older.

reader persona feels a bit too much like like Chuck Schumer's fake moderate democratic couple. how about, be a fan of the genre you're writing in. that way you're well read in it, understand the conventions, and can be inspired by what you like and know enough to subvert tropes slightly. this is the root of "write what you know" far too many writers don't do this and don't read enough. like with Chuck Schumer, creating a persona won't help if you're not a fan of the work (in his case democracy)
