'80s Kids' movies prepared us for life. The crap they pump out today is awful. But this watering down has been happening for centuries. Disney movies from the 1930's to the 1990's are considered dark as hell. Yet compare them to the Grimms' fairytales and similar moral parables that most of them are based on. They're fluffy cakewalks in comparison. Kids' stories used to have the conversations that parents often couldn't manage with their kids, and dressed them up as entertainment. Taught them how to recognise and process the inevitable traumas of existence, whilst still letting kids be kids.
