No because I think a lot of people deserve to die but the justice system shouldn’t be allowed to sentence people to death because that power can and will be abused as it has been in the past. I recommend Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson (I hope I’m remembering his name write) because it completely made me change my mind on the death penalty

punishment is not a requirement for justice. society should focus on caring for victims, rehabilitating criminals (if possible) and crime prevention. punishment is not a requirement for any of these. Acomplishing this may look like punishment or be unpleasant for criminals. the only purpose of punishment is to make you feel good about yourself for doing a justice.

You can be pro victim and anti death penalty. There’s just a lot of nuance regarding a death penalty and I truly think that putting ANY group to death is going to be a slippery slope. Especially considering all the injustices and biases in our criminal justice system….
