Waitressing has no medical and no retirement. In your 20s that might not matter. Later life they will

Just get your RN. Don’t get the LPn.

STAY SERVING. You will hate nursing and sorry Dave, it doesn’t pay 100k unless you’re way up in leadership.

Where the hell are the $100k waitressing jobs? I’m in architecture and don’t even make $90k….

As an RN of 18 years I have to say it crushes your soul. And that's coming from someone who has worked in multiple different areas. There are a lot easier, smarter ways to make money. People don't understand how much it takes out of you mentally and physically. You end up paying a price. It's sad. I would never encourage someone to go into it even though the heart of nursing is beautiful and meaningful. The reality is very different.

No, Dave, no they don’t! BSN nurses barely make 50k as a new grad in most southern states…LPN is likely less than 40k in AL. I am a nursing professor in AL. Nursing is great, don’t get me wrong, but this is a major pay cut

You should probably factor in the emotional stress of doing nursing full time. Nursing has one of the highest rates of burnout. You really wanna understand what you’re getting into, it shouldn’t be a purely financial decision.

You might make more as a waitress, but you don’t get a 401, pension, HSA card, education fund. You get a lot of benefits working as a nurse and it is really stable.

And then you have to worry that you will make a mistake because you are so overwhelmed. Do not do it.

Go to a community college and get your ADN. Skip the LPN. You can get your employer to pay for your BSN. I made $176k last year as an RN with OT and bonus shifts. The money is there.

Stay serving, get your associates at a community college. Work at a hospital, have them pay for BSN!

BAD ADVICE. To work a nursing job that won’t crush your spirit, you’ll be making like $28/hour at a dermatology office. Working at the hospital, where there is potential to make a decent amount of money, is soul sucking. And even still, after 5 years as an RN, I’m not making anywhere close to 100k. To do that I’d need to work lots of OT or travel.

New grad LPN making 50k on only 36hrs in Ohio! Also look into an RN program 2 year gets the same same pay as BSN (BSN just leads to more management positions later on) plus you can challenge the LPN NCLEX after your first year of RN nursing classes!
