While no amount of alcohol is physically healthy, I would argue it can build social connection which is also important for our health. And yes I understand it can also do the opposite depending how it is used. But personally I find a couple of drinks can have definitely have benefit.

I think holistically very low drinking is probably healthier than zero drinking. Because it’s so normalized, it’s probably better in the long run to drink occasionally at things like business dinners, where you improve your social standing and eventually making more money which makes it easier to be healthier in all other aspects.

I love a lot of your content but I have to correct you on one point: 1 unit of alcohol absolutely isn't "approximately 10ml of a drink" - it's equivalent to a single UK measure (so 25ml, a little under 1oz) of 40% (or 80 proof) spirit. so 10ml of vodka or whiskey would equate to about 0.4 units, while 10ml of regular strength beer would be about 0.04 units

Quick question. When you said that the general consensus is that no amount of alcohol is good for you, is that just taking into consideration the physiological effects or also the psychological and social effects?

To me one drink a day sounds like a lot. I really only get a drink if I’m out with a friend socially which is like once a week at most

i feel strange about this. my long-term ex was a sober alcoholic, my grandma died of her alcoholism and my brother is sober (although he never reached full-blown alcoholic, he just stopped when he realised he was self-medicating)... and yet... I have never felt the same way about alcohol as anyone else around me. I have had probably two drinks that I can think of in the last 2 full years...But I don't consider myself sober even though I go out, I go to events and bars, and choose non-alcoholic beers every time. I don't know. It's strange. Sober but not sober.

I'm definitely bordering the high risk group and am taking steps to chill. I don't even keep alcohol at my house but I've started to crave it when I'm home.

I found quitting marijuana to be 100x harder than quitting alcohol. Mostly because alcohol makes me feel terrible the next day and now that I’m older it doesn’t take much at all.

I feel like any degree of regularity is weird. Daily, weekly, etc if you’re able to set your watch by your habits it’s a sign that you’re too into it. You should be able to take it or leave it, do it sporadically and stop for weeks or months at a time and be fine.

Alcohol has been with humanity since the dawn of humanity. Archaeologist continued to push back the discovery of brewing at this point there is older evidence of producing alcohol than bread.

I did a dry month two years ago and I haven't looked back since. Not drinking is the biggest life upgrade I've had apart from making a living wage.

I used to drink and party a lot. Now my stomach goes to extreme pain from alcohol. I get questioned so kich about not drinking. I don't judge others for it but it is so accepted. Thank you for your explanation though! I love this.

I pretty much keep it to a margarita with my Friday night tacos and maybe an evening glass of wine every once in awhile.

I drank alcoholically from the first time I drink. I quit for 7 years, decided I could probably drink normally and picked up right where I left off. I had to be medically detoxed this time, but I’m happy to be sober again. I also hate having to explain myself when I’m around people that are drinking so I usually just say I’m allergic.
