DO YOU HAVE TO GIVE TO CHURCH TO RECEIVE GOD’S BLESSINGS? THE REAL ANSWER MAY SHOCK YOU Maybe someone has told you, “If you don’t give to church, God won’t bless you.” But is that really what the Bible teaches? Here are three biblical truths. FIRST: GOD CARES ABOUT MORE THAN HOW MUCH MONEY YOU CAN GIVE. Ruth was a Moabite widow with little to offer financially. But she had something precious: a loyal heart that turned toward God. She told Naomi, “Whither thou goest, I will go... thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God.” (Ruth 1:16, KJV) God later led her to Boaz, and she became part of David’s family line. Ruth was blessed not because of how much money she gave, but because her heart truly turned to God. SECOND: GOD DOES NOT MEASURE GIVING ONLY BY THE AMOUNT. In Mark 12, wealthy people gave large amounts, while a poor widow gave only two small coins. Yet Jesus said, “This poor widow hath cast more in, than all they.” (Mark 12:43, KJV) Not because her amount was greater, but because she gave sincerely out of her poverty. You can give a lot from abundance, habit, or even to be seen. You can also give very little with genuine love and faith. God sees the difference. THIRD: TRUE GIVING SHOULD NOT COME FROM FEAR OR PRESSURE. 2 Corinthians 9:7 says, “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart... not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.” Not reluctantly. Not under pressure. If you give because you fear God will not bless you otherwise, or because someone pressures and condemns you, that is not the cheerful giving Scripture describes. Paul then says, “God is able to make all grace abound toward you.” (2 Corinthians 9:8, KJV) Notice: it does not say, “Give enough and God must bless you.” God provides according to His grace. So here is the truth: giving to God is beautiful. It can express love and faith. But God’s blessings cannot be bought, and they are not determined by the amount you give. God looks at your heart, not only the number on a receipt. Do not let anyone use fear or guilt to force you to give. Give freely, joyfully, and sincerely.
