Her betrayal hurt dean the most because he knew her as his mother… Sammy only knew her through deans memories and stories. Sammy sending her away is choosing his only parent figures’ side.

Honestly the biggest tragedy the Winchesters ever faced was meeting their mom and thoroughly dispelling whatever fantasies they had about the person she was. They both grew up knowing damn well their father was an awful human - but bringing Mary back just taught Sam and Dean that neither of their parents were good people. Amara should have brought back Bobby, instead.

I love the fact that Sam sides with Dean right from the beginning. When the yellow-eyed demon possesses John, Sam didn't hesitate to follow Dean and believe in his brother, and it's the same thing in the scene with Mary.
