@realdocspeaks: Hospital bills can vary wildly because many systems start with inflated “chargemaster” pricing before insurance negotiations happen. That’s why the same procedure can end up costing completely different amounts depending on how it’s billed and who’s paying. This video is for educational purposes only and is NOT medical advice. #Healthcare #HealthInsurance

those losses are not tax deductions, neither are the ones the doctors take. You bake a loaf of bread, put a price tag on it for $100, but only sell it for $5, you dont get a $95 tax deduction

prices are convoluted. 1. it's not a tax write off. healthcare revenue is reported net of contractual adjustments. 2. 60% of hospitals are nonprofit (no bearing on the patient, but they won't be paying taxes is my point). 3. supplemental payments from Medicaid as well as DRG pricing is founded in actual incurred costs as well as the charges established. if everything is high, there's no risk in undercutting yourself.

Hospital prices are ridiculous, but it has nothing to do with taxes. Plenty of non profit hospitals that don’t pay taxes play the same games.

This has to be put on by the insurance industry, there are so many skewed facts and innacuracies that this has to be part of the insurance industry’s new pr campaign. Should have a disclaimer

the insurance says I'm not paying that much and I have the person I am arguing my bill with claim they have to over charge in order to be sure they get the full amount and not shorter by the insurance company. Yet the insurance company is the one who decides your treatments NOT the actual doctor...It is all just pass the blame and we suffer

And if we go to universal healthcare, almost assuredly, the government will want to reimburse providers at rates similar to Medicare. That rate varies per procedure but may be 30, 40, 50 percent less than private health insurance. What will happen if hospital, service providers, medical supply companies have their reimbursement rates cut by a large percentage?

This is exactly why every single hospital has to publicly disclose their price lists. All prices and services have to be priced and available to see

Small correction - the charge master isn’t the starting point. It’s just a report estimating costs for each item. Admittedly, it gets very complex and would take hours to explain.

Yes, the difference is “written off,” but mostly as a contractual adjustment * It is not treated as a financial loss after earning revenue * It is excluded from revenue calculation in the first place under accounting rules

I don't think people realize that service can happen both ways simultaneously, and you can have your own charge master and invoicing system for the hospital as well... going to charge me to hold my baby? fine! I just so happened to charge $60,000 for you to charge me to do it, alone... actually holding my own baby has a price tag of $30,000. That's $90,000 for the hospital. pay within 180 days, or I'll put a contractor's lien on the entire building. let's match absurdity with absurdity.

Did not have insurance when my kid was born had just gotten laid off. Got a bill for $14,000. They said it was due immediately. I just straight up told him I’m unemployed at the moment the only way I’ll be able to pay this bill is to sell my vehicles and sell my house or take out a second mortgage lady on the phone said OK merry Christmas we’re going to be writing this off.
