@jackie.horse.sanc: We’re calling him Atlas. We found him abandoned in a field behind a barn that’s been empty for months. No water. No hay. Just him, tied short, ribs like a washboard, coat dull and matted with dirt. He’s emaciated - you can count every bone. And he’s sick. We don’t know what hit him first - starvation, infection, or just the weight of being forgotten. But he was still standing when we got there. Head low, ears back, but standing. That tells you something about him. He didn’t fight us when we loaded him. He didn’t have the energy to. We got him in the trailer and drove straight to the hospital. Right now Atlas is getting fluids, pain meds, and a full workup. Bloodwork, ultrasound, hoof exam - we’re trying to figure out exactly what we’re up against. The vet says it’s serious, but he’s responding. He’s eating a little. He’s still standing. That’s the part that matters. A horse this far gone will lie down and quit if he decides it’s over. Atlas hasn’t. The bill for emergency care like this is going to be heavy. Hospitalization, diagnostics, medication, and weeks of rehab feed once he’s stable. We’re covering it because he deserves a chance, but we can’t do it alone. If you can help Atlas, it goes straight to his stall, his meds, and his recovery. Even a small amount gets him another day of care. He’s been neglected. He’s been abandoned. But he’s not done yet. We named him Atlas because he’s carrying more than any horse should have to.
