The movie sets this up showing how everything is handed to him, the house from grandma, his job from his friend's father, the spell was him trying to find the easy way out without actually putting in the effort to really know Niki which is why the entity had trouble being her

You're right. When she "accidentally" says she lost her cat, instead of saying he lost his cat, that's when I knew she was reflecting his thoughts and feelings and not her own. And I mean accidental to the audience not towards Bear.

I just wanna say I thought very much of bear as a leech, and not to dunk on food critics or anything but it felt very thematic of him to want to be a job where he basically gets to live and profit off of other people’s work while “sitting back and doing nothing” kinda like how his relationship with Nikki developed

Yea, might be reading too much into it but Bear crying seemed forced like he was pathologically preparing himself so he could get sympathy from Nikki. When he gets sympathy from Sarah he’s disappointed not sad. Possessed Nikki mirrors bears possessive/manipulative inner self he keeps hidden.

oooh I love this take! I think Bear's idea of "love" is reflected in how the spell worked (he's not actually in love with Nikki, he's obsessed with her so the spell makes Nikki obsessed with Bear and reflect how Bear views/treats Nikki)

I don’t think the cat was a sympathy play, he was trying to avoid going out and said he was busy with other stuff before even going out, so if it was a sympathy play, why wouldnt he just say he wasn’t going out for that specific reason

This would be a pretty good theory if the movie didn't show Bear reacting in surprise and sadness to seeing the cat and confusion at seeing the pills when he was completely alone. If Nikki was there then it'd make sense, but he had no audience so who was he reacting for?
