The rhyme I recall from the 70s (which was already old by then) was: “Shave and a haircut, TWO BITS / Who you gonna marry? TOM MIX / Whatcha gonna live on? TOOTHPICKS / Shave and a haircut / THREE BITS”. I guess it was a joke about inflation? 🤷♂️(PS: Tom Mix was an actor famous in old American Westerns; he died in 1940, so that version of the song/rhyme is about a hundred years old!)
